Sontronics Solo Handheld Dynamic Supercardiod Microphone
Sontronics Solo Handheld Dynamic Supercardiod Microphone | Focused sound for voice
The handheld format is the defining decision: it lets a presenter or singer keep the microphone close and move it naturally with them. The Sontronics Solo is a dynamic microphone with a supercardioid pickup pattern, made for a person speaking or performing directly into a mic rather than for capturing a wide room. Its directional pattern favours sound from the front, so aiming and placement matter: point it towards the voice and keep it close for a more direct result. That makes it well suited to spoken introductions, interviews and vocal performance where the speaker can control the mic’s position. The appeal is a simple, familiar way of working: pick it up, aim it at the source and keep it there. If you want to record several people around a table or the ambience of a room, this focused handheld approach is less suited to that job.
Specialist Note
It’s quick to bring into position: there’s no stand placement to manage while the person speaking moves, and you can adjust the aim as you go. I’d suggest the Solo to someone who wants a dedicated mic for a presenter or a single singer. Its supercardioid pattern favours sound from the direction you point it, so keep it aimed at the voice and fairly close rather than expecting it to pick up a whole group evenly. The dynamic design suits this direct, voice-led role. One honest consideration: that focused pickup asks for a bit of attention to mic position, especially if the speaker turns away.
