Tiffen A44CGN6 Att 4x4 CLR/ND.6 Grad Filter
Tiffen A44CGN6 Att 4x4 CLR/ND.6 Grad Filter | Balance bright skies and darker foregrounds
Brighter skies and darker foregrounds can sit more naturally together in the same frame. The Tiffen A44CGN6 Att 4x4 CLR/ND.6 Grad Filter is a graduated filter for photographers who want to manage that difference while making the picture, rather than relying on a later edit. Its clear-to-ND.6 graduated designation describes a transition from a clear area to a darker area, so you can place the denser part over the brighter portion of a scene. That makes it particularly relevant for landscapes with a relatively level horizon, or other compositions where brightness changes across the frame. The 4x4 format gives you room to position the transition to suit your framing. It’s a focused tool for controlling a bright region in-camera; it won’t make an uneven skyline disappear, so careful placement matters.
Specialist Note
The Tiffen A44CGN6 is best at balancing a bright sky against a darker foreground in the same frame. Its CLR/ND.6 Grad designation tells you there’s a clear area and a graduated darker area, so position the transition across the bright portion rather than over the subject you want to retain detail in. For a landscape with a fairly level horizon, that can help keep the sky from dominating the exposure. The 4x4 format gives you space to adjust where the graduation falls as you compose. I’d be cautious with jagged mountain ridges or tall buildings: a straight graduation can darken their tops as well as the sky.
