Tiffen SIGSFX14 ARRI Signature Prime Soft FX 1/4 Rear Filter
Tiffen SIGSFX14 ARRI Signature Prime Soft FX 1/4 Rear Filter | Subtle diffusion for gentler images
Images take on a softer, less crisp character with the Tiffen SIGSFX14 ARRI Signature Prime Soft FX 1/4 Rear Filter. It’s a diffusion filter made for ARRI Signature Prime lenses, with a 1/4 strength for a restrained effect. That makes it worth considering when you want a gentler look for faces or a change in mood, without making the diffusion the main event. It suits cinematographers and camera teams building a look around the ARRI Signature Prime system. The rear-filter format makes it specific to that setup, rather than a general-purpose filter for different lenses. Use it when you want softness to be part of the image’s character; it won’t replace considered lighting, focus or framing.
Specialist Note
A common first misstep with diffusion is choosing a strength that calls attention to itself; the 1/4 grade gives you a more restrained starting point. This is a rear filter for ARRI Signature Prime lenses, so it suits crews already working with that lens system. I’d consider it for a close portrait or a quiet dialogue scene when you want a softer image character without turning the effect into the subject. Keep in mind that this quarter-strength option is subtle by design: if you’re after a pronounced, dreamy diffusion look, it may feel too gentle on its own.
