Tiffen SIGSMQ12 ARRI Signature Prime Smoque 1/2 Rear Filter
Tiffen SIGSMQ12 ARRI Signature Prime Smoque 1/2 Rear Filter | Adds a smoky look in-camera
Its defining design choice is the rear-filter format: this Tiffen Smoque filter is made for the ARRI Signature Prime lens system. That makes it a purpose-specific creative tool for cinematographers who want a smoke-like atmosphere as part of their image-making, rather than a general filter for everyday lens use. The 1/2 strength gives you a set effect to work with when shaping a scene’s mood. Consider it for controlled interiors, stylised portraits or scenes where you want atmosphere to read in the finished frame. It’s particularly relevant when you want to create that look with a filter rather than relying on visible smoke on set. The key point is the pairing: this is a rear filter for ARRI Signature Prime lenses, so it belongs in a setup built around that lens family. If you’re working with those lenses and want a Smoque effect, this is the specific version to consider.
Specialist Note
Cinematographers shaping atmospheric interiors or stylised night scenes are the people I’d point towards this filter. The 1/2 strength gives you a defined Smoque option to build into the look, rather than leaving the effect to chance on set; I’d plan it around the mood you want the scene to carry. Its rear-filter format also ties it specifically to an ARRI Signature Prime setup, so choose it as part of that lens configuration. It’s a focused creative tool, not a general-purpose filter. For a smoky feel in a scene without introducing visible smoke, it’s a distinctive option to discuss with your crew.
