Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 2.4
Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 2.4 | Make longer exposures in bright conditions
Moving water can take on a smoother look, and motion can blur more visibly, when you use a longer shutter time in daylight. The Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 2.4 is an ND filter for reducing the light reaching your camera, giving you more room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture in bright conditions. It suits photographers working on landscapes, architecture or other scenes where controlling exposure is part of the intended look. It can also help when you want to keep your chosen aperture in strong light. The filter won’t create motion in a still scene; you’ll need a moving subject and an exposure that lets that movement register. Think of it as a specific exposure tool, rather than a filter that changes the subject or composition.
Specialist Note
The Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 2.4 is best for cutting light when you want a longer exposure in bright conditions. The 2.4 designation tells you to plan for a substantial reduction, so set the shutter speed or aperture you want, then adjust exposure accordingly. That makes it useful for softening the look of a stream or showing movement in clouds; use a steady camera and let the movement build over the exposure. The 105mm size is important when you’re planning the rest of your filter setup, so make sure the pieces you intend to use are arranged for that size. I’d choose it for deliberate exposure control, not quick changes between very different lighting.
