Tokina 86.0mm Hydrophilic
Tokina 86.0mm Hydrophilic | A water-attracting filter for wet scenes
A spray of water or droplets across the front of a filter can become an unwanted distraction when you’re framing a scene near water. The Tokina 86.0mm Hydrophilic is a color filter identified by its 86.0mm size and hydrophilic surface character. Hydrophilic means water-attracting: rather than treating water as something the surface repels, it describes a surface that water can spread across. That makes this filter relevant to photographers thinking about water on the front surface while working around splashes or damp conditions. The title doesn’t identify a particular color effect, so I’d choose it for its stated hydrophilic character rather than assume a specific change to color or contrast. It’s a specialised option for someone who knows that this surface property matters to their work and needs a filter in the 86.0mm size. If you’re comparing filters, keep those two details in view.
Specialist Note
Droplets catching your attention on the filter can interrupt a shot, and the hydrophilic character here is the detail to focus on. The term describes a surface that attracts water, so I’d consider this Tokina for work around spray or damp conditions where water on the front surface is a concern. Its 86.0mm size gives you a clear sizing reference when selecting a filter, but it doesn’t tell you which lenses it fits; match the size to the filter requirement of your setup. I’d also keep expectations specific: this is identified as a color filter, but no particular color effect is given. It suits someone choosing for the hydrophilic property, not for an assumed tint.
