Tokina 95.0mm Hydrophilic
Tokina 95.0mm Hydrophilic | A water-attracting colour filter in 95.0mm format
Tokina 95.0mm Hydrophilic is a hydrophilic colour filter in a 95.0mm format, for photographers and camera operators working with a setup made for this filter size. Its defining detail is the hydrophilic property: the term describes a surface that attracts water, rather than causing it to gather into separate beads. That makes this filter relevant when water on the filter face is part of the shooting conditions. The 95.0mm designation gives you a precise size to match against your filter setup; it isn’t a focal length. As a colour filter, it belongs in workflows where a filter is part of the intended image-making process. The product name doesn’t identify a particular colour effect, so I wouldn’t choose it on the assumption that it creates a specific hue or correction. It’s best suited to someone who knows they need this size and wants the hydrophilic characteristic for their working conditions.
Specialist Note
On a damp set, with moisture reaching the front of a filter, the hydrophilic detail is the reason to consider this Tokina. In practical terms, hydrophilic surfaces attract water, encouraging it to spread rather than sit in distinct beads. The 95.0mm size is equally important: it identifies the filter format, so it belongs with a setup designed for that size. I’d consider it for colour-filter work in conditions where water on the filter face is a concern, rather than buying it for a particular colour shift. That specific colour result isn’t conveyed by the product name. It suits operators who already know their required filter size and value the water-related property.
