Tokina Cinema 25-75mm T2.9 (EF)
Tokina Cinema 25-75mm T2.9 (EF) | A practical range for filmmaking
Without a zoom, changing from a wider view to a tighter composition often means changing lenses. The Tokina Cinema 25-75mm T2.9 (EF) gives filmmakers a standard zoom range in one interchangeable lens, so you can adjust framing without interrupting the setup to swap glass. It suits video makers and film crews who prefer to set focus manually and want one lens to cover a variety of shot sizes. At 25mm, you can frame a broader view; moving towards 75mm gives you a tighter composition from the same camera position. That makes the range useful for planned scenes where the framing may need to shift, as well as interviews with more than one shot size. This is a focused tool for filmmaking rather than an all-purpose lens: its appeal is the 25-75mm framing range and manual operation.
Specialist Note
“Can the Tokina Cinema 25-75mm T2.9 (EF) cover a scene without a lens change?” For many setups, yes: the 25-75mm range lets you move from a broad establishing view to tighter dialogue framing while keeping the same lens mounted. I’d consider it for a small film crew or an operator who likes to manage focus themselves. Manual focus means you’ll need to make focus adjustments yourself, so it suits a deliberate workflow rather than hands-off shooting. The maximum T2.9 aperture gives you a defined wide-open setting when the scene calls for it. One practical limit: if autofocus is essential to your way of working, this manual-focus lens isn’t the right match.
