The f/1.8 maximum aperture gives you room to work in dimmer light and to separate a subject from its surroundings when you focus carefully. Autofocus keeps everyday shooting straightforward, while the fixed focal length encourages you to choose your position rather than reach for a zoom. It makes most sense if you enjoy that direct way of framing and want one prime to carry for a varied day out.

Specialist Note

Is this 35mm a good fit for street photography on a Fujifilm X body? Yes: on APS-C, its view is roughly equivalent to 52.5mm on full frame, which keeps attention on a person or a detail without feeling overly tight. I’d use autofocus to catch an unposed moment, and open to f/1.8 when the light drops indoors or in the evening. For a moving subject, try around 1/250 sec and adjust ISO to suit the available light. It also suits travel when you want to photograph people and small scenes. The trade-off is simple: there’s no zoom, so you’ll need to move to change your framing.
