Urth 72mm Magnetic Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 72mm Magnetic Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ | Gentle glow around highlights
Bright points of light take on a soft, hazy glow, giving portraits and night scenes a more atmospheric look. The Urth Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ is made for photographers who want that softened rendering in camera rather than adding the effect later. It can bring a gentler feel to a portrait against a bright window, or take the crisp edge off streetlights after dusk while leaving the scene legible. The result depends on the light and composition, so look for small, bright highlights against darker surroundings if you want the effect to read clearly. This is a creative filter, not a way to sharpen focus or rescue a poorly lit scene. Its White Mist character is the reason to choose it: a deliberate change in how highlights and fine detail appear, for images with a softer mood.
Specialist Note
First-time mist-filter buyers often expect a dramatic fog effect; this one is better approached as a gentle change in the image’s mood. I’d try it for a close portrait with a bright background, or for evening lights, where the softened glow has something visible to work with. The magnetic format makes sense if you want to fit or remove the filter without repeatedly turning a threaded ring. Its 72 mm size is the detail to match to your magnetic filter setup before planning a shoot. I’d keep it off when you need crisp, neutral-looking detail throughout the frame; the softening is the point, but it won’t suit every subject.
