Viltrox PL-RF Adapter
Viltrox PL-RF Adapter: Mount PL lenses on Canon RF cameras
A PL cinema lens on a Canon RF camera needs a mount connection made for those two systems. The Viltrox PL-RF Adapter connects a PL-mount lens to a Canon RF-mount camera, including Viltrox EPIC-series PL anamorphic lenses. It’s for filmmakers and camera owners bringing PL glass into a Canon RF setup, whether that means using an existing PL lens for a manually focused shot or pairing an EPIC anamorphic lens with an RF camera. The adapter’s focus mode is manual, so it fits workflows where focus is set by hand rather than relying on autofocus. Its appeal is straightforward: it bridges a specific lens mount and camera mount, with a rotating lock to secure the lens. That makes it a focused accessory for a PL-based kit, rather than a general-purpose mount adapter.
Mount, fit and construction
- Rotating lens lock: Turn the locking mechanism to secure the mounted lens. The firm hold is useful when the camera or lens is repositioned between takes.
- Close-fitting connection: The adapter is specified to fit tightly, without play at the connection. That keeps the lens and camera mount joined firmly during handling.
- Infinity focus: Its transfer structure is made to preserve accurate infinity focus. This matters when a shot needs focus set at distant subjects.
- Vignetting control: The stated fit is intended to avoid vignetting. That’s relevant when using the image area of a compatible lens on the camera.
- Metal construction: The body combines aluminium alloy with corrosion-resistant stainless steel. These materials keep the adapter lightweight while adding durable metal parts at the mount.
Specialist Note
This adapter’s job is to put a PL lens on a Canon RF camera with a proper locking connection, rather than relying on a loose-fitting workaround. I’d point a filmmaker with a Viltrox EPIC-series PL anamorphic lens toward it for manually focused shots on an RF body: mount the lens, use the rotating lock to hold it securely, then work focus by hand. The 245.5 g weight is worth factoring into a camera build, especially when balancing a rig. Its manual-focus specification is also the key limitation to keep in mind; this is for a hands-on focus workflow, not an autofocus setup.
