Boya BY-M1 Pro II - Clip-On Microphone: Capture speech for interviews and vlogs
Your interviews, vlogs and presentations capture speech alongside the surrounding sound. The Boya BY-M1 Pro II is a clip-on microphone with an omnidirectional pickup pattern, recording sound from every direction. Its 6 m cable gives you flexibility to position the recording device away from the person speaking, while the 3.5 mm plug connects it to a range of recording gear. Use it for a seated interview, a spoken-to-camera vlog or a presentation: the small clip attaches the microphone to clothing, keeping it with the speaker as they move. The BY-M1 Pro II also includes a -10 dB gain setting for recording louder sounds, and a headphone socket for live monitoring when used with a smartphone. It’s a straightforward way to capture spoken audio on compatible cameras, phones, computers, tablets and audio recorders.
Why it is useful
- Omnidirectional pickup: The microphone records sound from all directions, useful when a speaker turns their head or moves during an interview.
- 6 m cable: The long lead gives you room to place the recording device farther from the speaker, while the mic stays clipped to their clothing.
- -10 dB gain setting: Reduce the input level for louder sounds to help avoid distortion and keep recorded audio more consistent.
- Headphone monitoring: A 3.5 mm headphone socket provides live audio monitoring in smartphone mode, so you can listen as you record.
- Clip-on format: The supplied microphone clip attaches the mic to clothing, keeping it close to the person speaking during a recording.
Good to know
The BY-M1 Pro II is listed as compatible with smartphones, tablets, computers, cameras and audio recorders. Its frequency response is 50 Hz–20 kHz, and the microphone weighs 66 g. The 3.5 mm connection and broad device compatibility make it a flexible option across several types of recording setup.
Specialist Note
The Boya BY-M1 Pro II is a sensible pick for keeping a speaker’s voice recorded while they move. I like the 6 m cable for interviews: clip the mic to the speaker and keep the recording device farther away, rather than asking them to stay beside it. For a lively presentation, the -10 dB setting reduces the input level when voices get loud, which helps guard against distortion. The omnidirectional pickup also means the mic captures sound from around the speaker, not just from one direction. It’s particularly well suited to interviews and vlogs; remember that nearby ambient sound will be picked up too.
