Cokin Filter X123S Gradual Blue B2-SOFT
Cokin Filter X123S Gradual Blue B2-SOFT | Soft blue colour for pale skies
Give a pale, washed-out sky a stronger blue presence while keeping the foreground more natural. The Cokin Filter X123S Gradual Blue B2-SOFT is a gradual blue colour filter with a soft transition, made for shaping the sky in a landscape or seascape. Its graduated effect lets you place the colour across only part of the frame, rather than tinting the whole picture evenly. That’s useful when the sky needs more colour but the land, water or buildings below it already look right. It suits photographers who want to add a deliberate blue tone in-camera, especially when a bright sky feels visually flat beside a darker foreground. Position the transition to follow the skyline and the blue treatment can sit mainly above it. The effect depends on your framing: objects that cross the transition can also pick up some of the tint.
Specialist Note
The soft edge of the blue gradation changes how noticeable the join across a horizon feels: it gives you room to place the colour without a hard dividing line. I’d use it on an open sea view or a broad landscape, aligning the transition with the horizon so the blue sits in the sky rather than across the foreground. The “Gradual Blue” part is the key here; it treats one area of the picture instead of laying an even blue cast over everything. B2-SOFT is the designation to look for if that gentler transition is what you want. It’s less suited to a scene where branches or buildings fill much of the sky, since the colour can cross those shapes too.
