Desq Filter HMC Slim CPL 55mm
Desq Filter HMC Slim CPL 55mm | Control reflections and sky contrast
Desq Filter HMC Slim CPL 55mm is a slim-profile circular polarizing filter with a 55mm diameter, made for photographers who want more control over reflections and bright skies. A circular polarizer can reduce glare from non-metallic surfaces, such as water or glass, and can deepen the appearance of a blue sky when the shooting angle is right. That makes it useful for landscapes, travel scenes and architectural details where reflections compete with the subject. The slim designation is relevant if you use a wide-angle lens, where a bulky filter frame can risk darkening the corners of the image. Choose it for a lens with a 55mm filter thread; the diameter is the key fit detail. The effect isn’t automatic: you’ll need to rotate the filter while composing, and the change in reflections and sky will depend on your angle to the light. It’s a straightforward way to shape those elements in-camera rather than trying to remove every reflection later.
Specialist Note
Photographers who shoot lakes, shop windows or wide stretches of blue sky will get the most from this Desq CPL. The circular polarizing design lets you turn the filter to adjust reflections as you compose; for a sky effect, point roughly at right angles to the sun and rotate until the contrast looks right. Its slim profile is a sensible detail on a wide-angle lens, where a deep rim can make corner shading more likely. The 55mm size means it’s for a lens with a matching filter thread, so it won’t be a one-filter solution for every lens in a kit. I’d choose it when reflections are part of the scene you want to manage, not when you need them all gone.
