Formatt Hitech FC ND 77mm Graduated ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter
Formatt Hitech FC ND 77mm Graduated ND 0.3 (1 Stop) Filter | Balance bright skies and darker land
Without a graduated filter, you usually have to choose which part of a high-contrast scene gets the exposure you want. The Formatt Hitech FC ND 77mm Graduated ND 0.3 Filter gives you a one-stop reduction across part of the frame, helping bring a bright sky and darker foreground closer together in a single exposure. It’s suited to landscape photographers and anyone composing scenes where the brightness changes noticeably from one area to another. The 0.3 strength is a gentle adjustment, rather than a way to suppress a very bright sky dramatically. At 77mm, it’s intended for lenses that use this filter size. Use it when you want to hold more sky detail without making the land unnecessarily dark; position the graduated section over the brighter area and judge the balance in your composition. It’s a straightforward tool for managing exposure at capture, with a modest one-stop effect.
Specialist Note
One stop won’t tame a sky that’s dramatically brighter than the ground, so I wouldn’t choose this filter for extreme contrast. Its restrained 0.3 reduction is the reason I’d consider it for more balanced scenes: it can take the edge off a bright sky while leaving the foreground less affected. For a landscape with a clear horizon, place the graduated area over the sky and adjust its position to suit the frame. The 77mm size makes it relevant if your lens takes 77mm filters. It suits photographers who want a measured exposure adjustment in-camera, rather than a stronger darkening effect.
