Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit
Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit | A considered way to position filters
Positioning filters in front of a lens is the job of the Formatt Hitech Firecrest 100mm Holder Kit, a holder kit identified for the 100mm format. It’s for photographers who want to work with filters in a holder rather than hold one by hand, especially when framing a landscape with a bright sky and darker foreground. Used with a suitable graduated filter, that setup can help balance the sky against the land in a single frame. With a suitable neutral-density filter, it can also support longer exposures for smoothing moving water or clouds. The kit’s name gives you a clear starting point when you’re choosing a holder-based filter setup, but the title alone doesn’t establish which filters or lenses it works with. If you’re planning a particular combination, match the holder to the filter and lens details before building around it.
Specialist Note
A 100mm holder gives you a more controlled way to position a filter than balancing one by hand. I’d consider this kit for deliberate landscape work, where a graduated filter needs to sit across the sky and horizon, or for a long exposure with a neutral-density filter over moving water. The holder-kit format is the key point here: it’s the part that lets you work with a filter in position while you compose. The 100mm designation gives you a specific format to plan around, rather than a vague, one-size-fits-all description. It won’t create the exposure effect by itself; that comes from the filter you use with it. I’d treat it as the foundation of a considered filter setup, not as a filter in its own right.
