Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 62mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | Add two stops of exposure control
Without an ND filter, a bright scene can leave you with a shutter speed too fast for the motion blur you want. The Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 0.6 reduces the light reaching your camera by two stops, giving you more room to lengthen the exposure or adjust your aperture while keeping the exposure balanced. It’s a straightforward option for photographers who want to soften moving water, show movement in clouds or gain a little more control over exposure in bright conditions. The 62mm size makes it relevant to lenses that take 62mm filters. Its two-stop reduction is a measured adjustment rather than a heavy cut in light, so it suits modest exposure changes better than trying to create very long exposures in strong daylight. If you want a simple way to make a slower shutter speed possible without changing the scene’s lighting, this filter gives you that extra margin.
Exposure example
A two-stop reduction lets you use a shutter speed four times longer for the same exposure. For example, if your meter calls for 1/100 second without the filter, you can use about 1/25 second with it. That can bring a visible trace to moving water or passing clouds, though the result depends on how quickly the subject moves. The same reduction can also give you room to open the aperture by two stops when you want a shallower depth of field.
Specialist Note
Does the Firecrest ND 0.6 make a meaningful difference to shutter speed? Yes: its two-stop reduction lets you expose four times longer, so a 1/100-second reading becomes about 1/25 second at the same exposure. I’d suggest it to someone who wants a gentle blur in a stream or moving clouds, rather than an extreme long exposure. The 62mm diameter is the detail to match to your lens; it determines whether the filter fits. One honest limit: two stops won’t hold back enough light for very long exposures in bright sun on its own. It’s a sensible option when you want a modest, predictable shift.
