H&Y K-Series 100 x 100mm ND32 HD MRC ND Filter
H&Y K-Series 100 x 100mm ND32 HD MRC ND Filter | Five stops for longer daylight exposures
Bright daylight can make a slow shutter speed difficult to use, even when you want water to blur or clouds to drift across the frame. The H&Y K-Series ND32 filter reduces the light reaching your camera by a factor of 32, or five stops, giving you room to lengthen the exposure without changing the scene’s lighting. It’s a square 100 x 100mm filter, marked HD MRC, for photographers whose filter setup takes this size. That makes it a specific tool rather than an adjustable effect: ND32 gives you the same five-stop reduction each time. It’s best suited to controlled daylight work where you want a longer exposure or more freedom to use a wider aperture. For moving water, for example, the extra exposure time can soften its appearance; for a portrait in bright conditions, the reduction can help you use a wider aperture while keeping exposure under control.
Specialist Note
The ND32 is the reason to choose this filter when bright conditions keep your shutter speed too fast for the effect you want. Its five-stop reduction turns a metered 1/125 sec exposure into roughly 1/4 sec at the same aperture and ISO, which can give moving water a smoother look. The 100 x 100mm square format is useful if your filter holder is made for that size; it gives you a defined panel to position in the holder. I’d point this toward landscape photographers working with flowing water or moving clouds. One honest limit: ND32 is a fixed strength, so it won’t let you dial in a lighter reduction with the same filter.
