Laowa 15mm F/5 Cookie FF Silver Leica M

Laowa 15mm F/5 Cookie FF Silver Leica M | Ultra-wide, pocket-sized perspective

The Laowa 15mm F/5 Cookie FF Silver Leica M is an ultra-wide prime with a 110° angle of view, bringing a broad perspective to a remarkably small lens. It’s for Leica M photographers who want a compact manual lens for landscape and architectural work, especially when a scene feels too wide to fit into a more standard view. At 15mm, it takes in a wide sweep of a setting, while its full-frame coverage suits the sensor format of full-frame Leica M cameras. The silver finish gives this version a distinct look on the camera, and its slim pancake-style form keeps the kit pared back. Use it to include more of a mountain view, or to frame a building together with the space around it. The broad view also makes foreground details part of the composition: a nearby wall, path or stone can lead the eye into a wider scene. Focus and aperture are both manual, so the lens rewards considered framing rather than relying on automatic operation. Its fixed f/5 maximum aperture is a straightforward trade-off for such a compact ultra-wide lens; the appeal here is the generous view and small footprint, not a fast aperture.

Where this lens shines

• Small, light construction: At 104 grams and 53 × 25 mm, it takes up little space in a camera bag. That’s welcome on landscape outings where you’d rather keep your kit light.
• 12 cm minimum focus: Get close to a foreground subject while retaining the broad scene behind it. This is useful for giving a small detail a strong place in a wide landscape composition.
• 39 mm filter thread: Screw-in filters attach directly to the lens. The common thread size makes it simple to add a compatible filter to your kit.
• F/5–22 aperture range: The manual aperture ring covers a broad range of settings. Stop down when you want a smaller aperture for a landscape or architectural frame.
• Five-blade diaphragm: With a strong light source in the frame, the aperture shape can produce a ten-point sunstar. It’s a distinctive effect to look for in scenes with bright lights or the sun.
• 13 elements in 9 groups: This optical construction packs a multi-element design into the compact Cookie format, while keeping the lens’s emphasis firmly on an ultra-wide view.

On your camera

This version has a Leica M mount and covers the full-frame sensor format. It’s an interchangeable lens with manual focus, so focusing is done by hand rather than through autofocus. That deliberate approach fits landscape and architectural photography, where you can take time over focus and composition. The silver finish is specific to this version.
