Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 55 mm
Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 55 mm | Four stops for creative exposure
An ND16 filter’s defining benefit is its four-stop reduction in light, giving you room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture in bright conditions. The Marumi Grey Filter DHG ND16 55 mm suits photographers who want deliberate motion blur in daylight, or who want to use a wider aperture without an excessively fast shutter speed. It’s particularly handy for scenes such as flowing water and moving clouds, and for portraits where you want a shallower depth of field in bright light. The 55 mm size is intended for a lens with a matching 55 mm filter thread, so you can match it to the size marked on your lens. Its ND16 strength is fixed rather than adjustable: that makes the light reduction predictable, though it gives you less flexibility as the light changes. For a specific exposure effect, take a meter reading with the filter fitted and adjust from there.
Specialist Note
A common first mistake with an ND filter is choosing too little light reduction for the shutter effect you have in mind. This ND16 cuts four stops, so in the same light a 1/500 sec exposure becomes about 1/30 sec—useful for giving moving water a softer look. I’d pair that slower shutter speed with a steady camera, especially for landscape work. The 55 mm size matters too: it’s the lens’s filter-thread diameter you need to match, not its focal length. This suits photographers who want a simple, defined reduction rather than a strength they keep adjusting. The trade-off is that ND16 stays at four stops, so it won’t adapt to changing light.
