Its 12mm focal length and 84° angle of view help you include more of the surroundings in a single shot, while the T2.2 maximum aperture gives you more flexibility when light is limited. Focus is manual, so it suits filmmakers who want to set focus deliberately rather than rely on autofocus. It’s a focused tool for wide interior scenes, establishing shots and other video work where the space around your subject matters. If you’re planning to pull focus during a take, you’ll need to manage that yourself.
Specialist Note
Cramped framing can make a location feel smaller than it is; this 12mm gives you room to show more of the scene. On a Micro Four Thirds body, its field of view is comparable to 24mm on full frame, which is handy for a room-wide establishing shot or a close view of a subject with its surroundings still in frame. The T2.2 aperture gives you extra exposure flexibility in dim interiors; for 25 fps footage, try 1/50 sec as a starting shutter speed and adjust ISO to suit the available light. Manual focus means you can set the distance before recording, but you’ll need to make focus changes yourself during a take. It’s best suited to filmmakers who are comfortable working that way.
