OWC Express 1M2 USB4 (80GB/s) 2TB Bus-Powered Portable NVMe SSD

OWC Express 1M2 USB4 (80GB/s) 2TB Bus-Powered Portable NVMe SSD | Keep working files close at hand

Your working files can travel with you on a single 2TB drive. The OWC Express 1M2 is a portable external NVMe SSD for photographers and other creators who want storage they can carry between locations or keep beside their computer. It’s bus-powered, so the drive draws power from its connection rather than needing a separate power supply. The product title specifies USB4 and an 80GB/s figure; that’s the headline detail for anyone weighing it as a fast external drive. Use it as a place to keep a current set of image files, video clips or project folders together, rather than spreading active work across several storage devices. One honest point: the title alone doesn’t tell us how it will perform in a particular setup, so treat that figure as the stated specification, not a promise of a specific real-world transfer time.

A portable drive for active projects

The Express 1M2 makes most sense when you want your files within reach as you move between workspaces. A portable SSD can keep a project together for editing, sorting or handing off, and this model’s 2TB capacity gives you room to choose what belongs in that working set. Since it’s bus-powered, there’s no separate drive power supply to plan around. That keeps the setup simple, though you’ll still need a suitable connection to use an external drive. The USB4 name and stated speed figure are useful points to compare when choosing storage; your actual experience will depend on the rest of the setup. If you mainly need a place to archive files and leave it untouched, a portable drive may be more than that job calls for. For work you want to carry and access, its combination of capacity and portable, bus-powered design is the practical appeal.
