PolarPro VND - 49mm - 2-5 Stops - Black Mist - Edition II - Peter McKinnon
PolarPro VND - 49mm - 2-5 Stops - Black Mist - Edition II - Peter McKinnon | Control light, soften highlights
Bright conditions can leave you choosing between a shutter speed you don’t want and an aperture that changes the look of your shot. This PolarPro VND gives you a way to reduce the light reaching the camera while keeping the Black Mist effect in the image. It’s for photographers and filmmakers who want more control over exposure, with a softer rendering of highlights rather than a completely crisp, clinical look. That combination is especially suited to portraits, bright outdoor scenes and video where you want to manage exposure without losing the atmospheric character of the image. The Peter McKinnon Edition II brings variable neutral-density control and Black Mist diffusion together in one filter. It’s a considered option when you want to shape both the light level and the feel of highlights, rather than correcting exposure alone.
Specialist Note
“Can I use this to keep my exposure under control and still get the Black Mist look?” Yes—that’s the point of this VND. Its 2–5-stop range lets you cut incoming light by different amounts, handy when you want a slower shutter in bright conditions or a wider aperture without overexposing. The 49mm size matters at the lens: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 49mm filter thread, so check that measurement before choosing it. I’d consider it for outdoor video or portraits where you want highlights to feel softer. One thing to bear in mind: the Black Mist character is part of the image, so it won’t suit every scene.
