Radius 7cm Sanken CS-M1 Nimbus Windshield (19/22)
Radius 7cm Sanken CS-M1 Nimbus Windshield (19/22) | Keep wind from taking over your recording
For outdoor dialogue or location sound, a windshield helps keep gusts from overwhelming the voice or other quiet sounds you’re recording. The Radius 7cm Sanken CS-M1 Nimbus Windshield (19/22) is a microphone windshield named for the Sanken CS-M1, with a 7 cm radius designation. It’s aimed at sound recordists who want a dedicated wind solution for that microphone rather than relying on a hand or improvised cover. That makes it relevant for interviews outside, spoken-word recordings in exposed locations, and other situations where wind can spoil a take. The 19/22 designation is also part of this version’s name, so it’s useful to have that full marking to hand when matching the product to your setup. The product name gives a clear starting point for identifying it; the main job is straightforward: help reduce wind interference around the microphone while you capture usable sound.
Wind protection is especially helpful when your subject is speaking softly or you’re recording details that would otherwise be masked by gusts. It won’t remove every source of outdoor noise, but it addresses wind at the microphone, where it can become a distracting low rumble. For a recording plan, think of it as one part of the setup: choose a sheltered position when you can, then use the windshield when the location still leaves the mic exposed.
Specialist Note
This windshield gives you a dedicated way to manage wind on a Sanken CS-M1 recording, rather than trying to shield the mic by hand. The 7 cm radius designation is a helpful size reference when you’re planning how much room the windshield will take around your setup. The 19/22 marking is worth keeping in view when identifying this particular version; use the complete product name when matching it to your microphone. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or spoken-word location work, where wind can interfere with clear dialogue. It’s a focused accessory, not a way to solve every outdoor sound problem, so a sheltered recording position still helps when one is available.
