Revar Cine 138mm / 52mm Close-Up Compression Diopter +0.50 | Gentle close-focus adjustment

The +0.50 strength is the defining detail here: this is a mild close-up diopter, rather than a strong magnifying effect. It suits cine makers who want to bring a subject closer in focus while keeping the adjustment restrained. That can be useful for detail shots of objects, surface textures or small elements within a scene, where you want the subject to read more clearly without turning the shot into an extreme close-up. A diopter works by changing the lens’s close-focusing capability; you focus through it on the subject rather than treating it as a camera filter for exposure or colour. The 138mm / 52mm designation is also worth considering as you plan a setup: use those numbers as references when matching the product to your rig. If subtle close detail is the aim, the modest +0.50 rating gives you a measured place to start.

Specialist Note

At +0.50, the close-up effect is deliberately gentle, which I’d find useful when you want a detail shot to feel connected to the wider scene. For a product insert, for example, bring the object closer than your lens would normally focus, then refocus through the diopter; it’s a straightforward way to bring small details into focus without aiming for extreme magnification. The 138mm / 52mm designation gives you two concrete size references to compare with your planned filter setup, so I’d sort that out before building the shot. This is best suited to cine work where a restrained close-focus change is enough. It won’t provide the dramatic effect of a stronger diopter, and that’s part of its appeal.
