Rycote Sony HDR FX-1/Z1 Mini Windjammer (Short Fur)
Rycote Sony HDR FX-1/Z1 Mini Windjammer (Short Fur) | Helps tame wind noise outdoors
Wind can make outdoor audio hard to listen to, even when the picture is exactly as you wanted it. This Rycote Mini Windjammer is a short-fur microphone wind cover for the Sony HDR FX-1 and Z1. It’s intended to help reduce the effect of wind on your recorded sound, making it a practical accessory for owners of these camcorders who record outside. The short-fur design gives you a focused option when you want wind protection without choosing a longer-fur style. It’s especially relevant for spoken audio outdoors, such as an interview or a piece to camera, where gusts can distract from what’s being said. The named fit is specific: this is for the Sony HDR FX-1/Z1, rather than a general-purpose wind cover. If those are your cameras and wind is affecting your recordings, this is a straightforward accessory to consider.
A focused solution for outdoor sound
A wind cover is there to address a particular recording problem, not to change the sound in every situation. This one is made around the Sony HDR FX-1/Z1 and uses short fur as its defining style. That makes it a useful item to keep in mind for outdoor interviews, event coverage or spoken introductions recorded on those camcorders. It’s a small, specific addition to a camera setup: the point is to help make wind less intrusive in the microphone recording, while keeping the choice tied to the named camera models.
Specialist Note
Short fur won’t be the answer for every windy recording, but it’s a sensible choice when you want a wind cover matched to the Sony HDR FX-1 or Z1. The model-specific fit matters in practice: you’re choosing an accessory intended for those camcorders, rather than hoping a general cover will suit. I’d consider it for outdoor interviews or a presenter speaking to camera; keep the microphone covered and make a short test recording before the conversation starts, so you can catch distracting wind before it matters. The Mini Windjammer name also signals a compact format, while the short fur keeps this option distinct from longer-fur styles. It’s a focused fix for wind, not a promise of silence in strong gusts.
