Schneider CFG Radiant Black 1/2 6.6x6.6
Schneider CFG Radiant Black 1/2 6.6x6.6 | Control light for deliberate exposure
Without an ND filter, bright conditions can force you to change your shutter speed or aperture when you’d rather keep your chosen settings. The Schneider CFG Radiant Black is listed as a neutral-density filter, giving you another way to manage the light reaching the camera. It suits filmmakers and photographers working with a filter-based setup who want exposure control in bright scenes, including when aiming for a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture. Its named 1/2 version is for anyone selecting this particular strength of the Radiant Black filter. The practical benefit is control over exposure choices, rather than having to reshape the image by changing camera settings alone. It’s most useful when those settings matter to the look you’re after; it won’t, by itself, decide the right exposure for the scene.
Using the filter
Choose the shutter speed or aperture you want first, then meter and adjust exposure with the filter in your setup. That approach is useful in bright daylight when you want to retain a slower shutter speed, or when you’d rather keep a wider aperture. The final exposure still depends on the available light and your camera settings.
Specialist Note
The 6.6x6.6 format is a commitment: this isn’t a filter to choose without considering the size your setup uses. For a workflow built around that format, though, it gives you a clearly identified Radiant Black option. I’d consider it for daylight scenes where you want to hold a slower shutter speed, or to keep your chosen aperture; set that preference first, then meter with the filter in place. The 1/2 marking matters when choosing this particular version, so treat it as a specific selection rather than assuming it describes an exposure-stop value. It suits image-makers who plan their filter setup before the shoot.
