Schneider CFG Rhodium FSND 1.5 6.6x6.6
Schneider CFG Rhodium FSND 1.5 6.6x6.6 | Five stops of light control
On a bright exterior, you may want a slower shutter speed for motion or a wider aperture for a particular depth of field, without letting the image become overexposed. The Schneider CFG Rhodium FSND 1.5 is a neutral-density filter for that job: it reduces the light reaching the camera while leaving those exposure choices open. Its 1.5 density corresponds to five stops of light reduction, a substantial change in one filter. For example, an exposure of 1/125 sec can be extended to about 1/4 sec with the same aperture and ISO. That makes it useful for rendering moving water or other motion as a blur, or for holding a chosen aperture in strong daylight. The 6.6x6.6 format is aimed at setups built around large square filters, rather than a small lens-front filter. It suits filmmakers and photographers who need deliberate exposure control and already work with equipment that accepts this size.
Specialist Note
The broad 6.6x6.6-inch square tells you straight away that this belongs in a large-format filter setup; you'll need a holder designed for that format. I’d consider it when you want a clear five-stop shift without changing your chosen aperture: for example, moving from 1/125 sec to about 1/4 sec at the same ISO to give flowing water visible motion. Its 1.5 density is a fairly strong reduction, so it’s especially suited to bright conditions rather than a subtle trim in low light. If your work depends on changing exposure quickly, plan the filter choice before you roll or expose.
