Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV Radiant Soft 1/2 6.6x6.6
Schneider-Kreuznach MPTV Radiant Soft 1/2 6.6x6.6 | Gentle softness for considered images
Its Radiant Soft name sets this apart from a plain ND filter: this is a filter for shaping the look of an image, with a 1/2 grade for a measured effect. It suits filmmakers and photographers who want a softer, more expressive rendering without relying on post-production alone. Try it when portrait close-ups, product details or a scene with bright points of light would benefit from a gentler visual character. The effect is most relevant when there are highlights in the frame to shape; a softly lit, low-contrast scene gives it less to work with. The 6.6x6.6 format points to a square-filter workflow, making this a considered tool for planned setups rather than a small filter you simply leave on a lens. If you’re choosing a filter for light control alone, this Radiant Soft model is better approached for its named softening character.
Specialist Note
1/2 is the grade to consider when you want a visible softening character without jumping straight to the stronger end of a filter range. I’d use it for a close portrait with a bright lamp or reflective detail in the background: keep that highlight in frame, then balance your exposure for the face so the softening has something to respond to. It can also suit product work where you want edges and reflections to feel less clinical. The 6.6x6.6 square format is suited to a planned filter setup, so it’s less convenient for quick, casual changes than a small screw-on filter. Its character depends on the scene; without bright highlights, the effect may be subtle.
