Slik Aluminum Telescopic Long Pole ALP-70304 (7.0 Meter)
Slik Aluminum Telescopic Long Pole ALP-70304 (7.0 Meter) | Reach above the crowd with a monopod
Its 7-metre telescopic reach sets the Slik ALP-70304 apart from a conventional monopod: it gives you room to position a camera higher when a normal tripod would take up too much space. It suits sports and wildlife photographers using long lenses, as well as anyone working at a busy event where space is limited. The aluminum pole extends to give you more options for framing from a raised position, while its monopod design avoids the broad footprint of a tripod. That reach is the reason to choose it, rather than a standard short support. Think about the viewpoint you need and the space around you before extending it; a long pole calls for deliberate positioning. It’s a specialist tool for situations where access and placement matter, not a general substitute for every tripod.
Working with a long pole
At a sports event, a raised camera position can help you frame action from a spot where a tripod would be awkward to place. For wildlife, the long reach offers another way to position a camera when working with a long lens. Plan your sightline before raising the pole, and keep the framing goal simple: a clear view of the action or subject. This kind of support is most useful when its reach solves a real positioning problem.
Specialist Note
First-time users often extend a long-pole monopod all the way just because they can; with this telescopic Slik, you can use only the reach your framing calls for. Its 7-metre length gives you scope to place the camera higher for an event view or a wildlife composition, while the aluminum construction provides the pole itself. I’d start with a clear line of sight, extend gradually, and adjust the framing before committing to a position. It makes sense for sports and wildlife work with long lenses, or crowded venues where a tripod takes up too much room. The trade-off is that this is a long, specialised support, so it’s best when extra height is genuinely useful.
