Sontronics Hyper-S Hypercardiod Capsule Silver For STC-1
Sontronics Hyper-S Hypercardioid Capsule Silver for STC-1 | Directional pickup for your STC-1
A more deliberate pickup direction starts with choosing a capsule that suits the sound you want to record. The Sontronics Hyper-S is a silver hypercardioid capsule for the STC-1 microphone, giving you a directional pickup pattern to work with in your recording setup. Aim the microphone toward the voice or instrument you want to capture, rather than treating the capsule as an all-around pickup. That makes it relevant for recording a spoken contribution or an individual instrument when you want to focus on a particular source. The silver finish gives the capsule a distinct look on a visible microphone rig, too. This is a specific microphone accessory, not a standalone microphone, and its named fit is the Sontronics STC-1. If you already use that microphone and want a hypercardioid option, the Hyper-S is a straightforward capsule to consider.
Specialist Note
1 is the model number in STC-1, the microphone named for this capsule, so that’s the key detail I’d check when choosing it. Hypercardioid describes its directional pickup pattern: for a spoken voice or a solo instrument, point the microphone toward the source you want to prioritize. It can help you favor that sound when other sounds are present, but it won’t make surrounding sound disappear. I’d consider this for an STC-1 setup where you want that particular pickup character rather than a different capsule pattern. The silver finish is a visible detail, so it also suits a rig where the microphone’s appearance matters.
