Tiffen 45650STR84 4x5.650 Star 8 PT 4mm Filter

Tiffen 45650STR84 4x5.650 Star 8 PT 4mm Filter | Add eight-point stars to bright lights

A point light in a night scene can look small and plain; this Tiffen Star 8 PT filter gives bright highlights a more defined, eight-point star effect. It’s for photographers and filmmakers who want that look in the image as they make it, rather than adding it later. The 4x5.650 format suits a larger filter setup, while the star pattern is most noticeable when distinct bright sources—such as lamps or reflected lights—appear in the frame. Use it when those highlights are part of the composition and you want them to draw the eye. The effect depends on the scene: without bright points of light, there may be little star detail to see. This is a creative-effects filter, not a UV filter for reducing ultraviolet light.

Where the star effect earns its place

Try it with visible practical lights in a dusk or night scene, or with a bright reflection that you want to make more graphic. Keep the light source clearly visible in the composition; the filter shapes its highlight into a star rather than making the light itself brighter. That makes it a deliberate look, best used when the star pattern belongs in the scene.
