Tiffen W127UPOL 127mm Ultra Polarizer Linear
Tiffen W127UPOL 127mm Ultra Polarizer Linear | Reduce reflections and deepen colour
Reflections on water, glass or glossy surfaces can hide detail and wash out colour. The Tiffen W127UPOL 127mm Ultra Polarizer Linear is a large-diameter polarizing filter that lets you reduce those reflections by rotating the filter to change its effect. It can also deepen the appearance of a blue sky when the shooting angle is right. This is useful for landscape photographers, architectural work and anyone photographing through reflective glass who wants more control in-camera. The 127mm size is the key fit detail: the lens needs a matching 127mm filter thread. This is a linear polarizer, not a circular one, so its type matters when choosing a filter for a camera. It’s best suited to situations where reflections or sky contrast are part of the picture and you can adjust the filter while composing.
Specialist Note
At a window with distracting reflections, I’d rotate the 127mm filter slowly while watching the view, then stop when the glass clears without losing the detail you want. That large diameter means it’s for a lens with a matching 127mm filter thread, so it belongs on a specialist-sized lens rather than being chosen by camera body. The linear design is also worth keeping in mind: it may not suit every camera’s autofocus or metering arrangement. For landscapes, try the same adjustment on a blue sky, especially with the sun off to one side. It rewards small, deliberate turns rather than a quick twist.
