Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 0.6
Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 0.6 | Two stops of light control
The defining choice here is the 0.6 IRND grade: it reduces incoming light by two stops, giving you a little more control over exposure without changing your lens aperture. The IRND designation identifies it as an infrared neutral density filter, made to address infrared as well as visible light. That makes it relevant when you want to reduce exposure while keeping infrared effects in mind. The 105mm size is another important part of the decision: it’s for setups that take a 105mm filter, so check the filter size your lens or holder accepts before building it into your kit. This Tokina suits photographers who need a measured reduction in light for deliberate shutter-speed or aperture choices. It’s especially useful when two stops are enough to bring a bright scene under control, or to give moving water a little more blur while keeping the rest of your exposure settings where you want them.
Specialist Note
Along a bright canal in late afternoon, the water still catches the light, and this 0.6 filter gives you two stops to work with. For a simple example, an exposure that calls for 1/60 second can move to 1/15 second at the same aperture and ISO, adding visible movement to the water. I’d consider it for photographers who want that moderate shift rather than a much darker filter. The 105mm size is worth planning for: your lens or holder needs to accept that size. One honest limitation is the modest reduction; it won’t turn every bright-day scene into a long exposure, but it’s a practical step when you only need two stops.
