Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 1.8
Tokina 105mm Pro IRND 1.8 | Cut light for controlled exposures
The defining choice is a 105mm filter size: it gives this Tokina a large-format role in managing light for a shot, rather than changing the look through camera settings alone. The Pro IRND 1.8 is a neutral-density filter, made for situations where you want less light reaching the sensor while keeping control over exposure. Its IRND designation points to infrared control as part of the filter’s purpose, which matters when strong filtration can make infrared contamination more noticeable. It suits photographers and filmmakers working in bright conditions, especially when they want to use a slower shutter or a wider aperture than the available light would normally allow. The 1.8 density is a substantial reduction, so it’s aimed at deliberate exposure control rather than a subtle adjustment. If your work involves managing bright scenes with a dense ND filter, this is a clearly specified option to consider.
Specialist Note
Photographers making long exposures of moving water or clouds will get the most from this Tokina. The 1.8 density works out to about six stops of light reduction, so a 1/60-second exposure can become roughly one second if you keep the aperture and ISO unchanged. That gives motion room to build into the frame, rather than simply making the scene darker. The 105mm size is the other important detail: it belongs in a larger filter setup, so think about how that format fits your existing kit before planning a shoot around it. It’s a strong fixed reduction, and that can be more than you want as daylight fades.
