Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 2.1
Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 2.1 | Control bright light for deliberate exposure
Without a neutral-density filter, bright conditions can leave you choosing between a faster shutter and a narrower aperture. The Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 2.1 is an ND filter for photographers and filmmakers who want more control over exposure when there’s a lot of light. Use an ND filter to cut the light reaching the camera, giving you room to choose a slower shutter speed or a wider aperture than the conditions would otherwise allow. That can help when you want movement in water to appear softer, or when you’re filming and want to keep your chosen shutter setting in daylight. Its IRND designation identifies the filter as an infrared neutral-density type. The 112mm format makes it a specialist option for setups that use filters of this size, rather than a small everyday filter. It’s most relevant when exposure control and the filter format both match the job.
Specialist Note
“Is the Tokina 112mm Pro IRND 2.1 for taking the edge off bright light?” Yes—that’s its job: it reduces the light entering the camera so you have more freedom with exposure. The 2.1 designation tells you this is a substantial reduction, which is useful when you want to slow the shutter for moving water or hold a chosen shutter setting while filming outdoors. I’d consider it for a camera setup already built around 112mm filters; that size makes it a more specialised purchase than a small filter you might carry for general use. If your work doesn’t call for this format or strong light control, it may be more filter than you need.
