The 47° angle of view keeps the framing natural: wide enough to include some surroundings in a portrait, yet focused enough to make a person the centre of attention. Its f/2 maximum aperture gives you room to work in softer light and to separate a subject from the background with careful focusing. A 50mm prime also encourages you to move around and refine your composition instead of reaching for a zoom. If you enjoy a slower, more intentional way of making pictures, this lens gives you a straightforward tool to do it.

Specialist Note

First-time manual-focus owners often expect to turn the focus ring only at the last moment; with this 50mm, it pays to slow down and settle your focus before the moment arrives. For a portrait, try f/2 and start around 1/125 sec, placing focus carefully on the subject’s eyes. That wide aperture can help in dimmer light, though you’ll still need to watch your exposure. For street scenes, anticipate where your subject will be and frame with the 50mm view rather than chasing action; manual focus is less convenient for fast, unpredictable movement.
