Urth 49mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+
Urth 49mm Ethereal White Mist Filter Plus+ | A gentle, mist-like look
The defining choice is the white-mist effect: Urth names this filter for a softer, hazier rendering rather than a neutral view. It’s intended for photographers who want bright highlights to feel gentler and the image to take on a subtle, atmospheric quality. That can suit portraits, where a softer look may feel more flattering, or night scenes where bright points of light can add to the mood. The effect is a creative decision, so it makes most sense when you want that character in the picture rather than a strictly unchanged rendering. The 49mm size is the other key detail: it gives you a clear measurement to match against the filter size your setup requires. This is a focused tool for shaping the look of a shot, not a general-purpose filter. If you enjoy choosing a visual mood before you press the shutter, the Ethereal White Mist gives you a way to do that in-camera.
Specialist Note
Portrait photographers drawn to soft light and a dreamy finish are the people I’d point toward this Urth. The White Mist effect is the reason to choose it: try it for a portrait near a bright window, letting the light in the scene help create a gentler, hazier impression. It can also suit evening street scenes with visible lamps; compose so those lights become part of the picture, rather than trying to keep every highlight looking crisp. The 49mm size is useful when it matches the filter size you need, but it’s a detail to check against your intended setup. One honest point: this is a deliberate look, so it won’t suit every scene if you want a clean, neutral rendering.
