Urth 72mm Magnetic Infra-Red (R72) Filter Plus+
Urth 72mm Magnetic Infra-Red (R72) Filter Plus+ | Explore infrared photography
Urth 72mm Magnetic Infra-Red (R72) Filter Plus+ is a 72mm filter for photographers exploring infrared photography. It suits people who want to make infrared images a deliberate part of their practice, from landscape photographers experimenting with foliage and sky to anyone developing a distinctive monochrome style. Its purpose is specific: this is a filter for infrared work, rather than an everyday protective filter or a general-purpose effect. That focus is its strongest reason to choose it. The 72mm size gives you a clear diameter to match to your filter setup, while the R72 designation identifies the type of infrared filter. If you’re planning a project around infrared rendering, it gives you a dedicated tool to work with; it isn’t a shortcut to a particular look, since the result depends on the scene and your image-making choices.
For a more deliberate infrared look
Infrared photography asks you to think differently about a scene: ordinary colour cues may not describe how the final image will read. Use the filter when you want to explore that shift in a landscape or build a considered series, rather than expecting it to behave like a routine lens filter. Its specialist purpose makes it most relevant when infrared is part of the plan from the outset.
Specialist Note
Late-afternoon light falls across a row of trees, and this is where an infrared filter earns its place: the scene becomes a study in how foliage and sky translate beyond ordinary colour photography. I’d suggest it to someone who wants to explore infrared as a distinct way of seeing, especially for landscape studies or a focused monochrome series. The magnetic format makes filter handling part of the setup, so think through how it fits your existing filter workflow before setting out. R72 is the defining detail here; this is a specialist filter for infrared work, not an all-purpose lens accessory. I’d approach it with patience and a clear idea of the scene you want to interpret.
