Viltrox AF 135mm / 1.8 FE Sony E Mount
Viltrox AF 135mm / 1.8 FE Sony E Mount | Fast-aperture reach for portraits and events
At a ceremony or event, you may want a close portrait without stepping into the moment. The Viltrox AF 135mm / 1.8 FE is a short telephoto prime for Sony FE full-frame cameras, with autofocus and an 18° angle of view. Its 135mm focal length gives you a tight frame from farther back, which suits portraits and candid event pictures. The f/1.8 maximum aperture is useful when the light is fading and can help separate your subject from the background. This is a specialist focal length rather than an everyday all-purpose lens: it works best when you have room to move and can choose your framing. In a small room, that reach can make it difficult to fit more than one person into the picture. For Sony FE photographers who value flattering, close framing, it has a clear job to do.
Specialist Note
The f/1.8 aperture gives you room to keep portraits bright as the light drops, while helping your subject sit apart from a softer-looking background. At 135mm, you can make a tight head-and-shoulders frame without crowding someone; for a posed portrait, start at f/1.8 and focus carefully on the nearer eye. At an event, autofocus is useful for catching brief expressions, and 1/250 sec is a sensible starting point for people who are moving gently. I’d recommend it to portrait makers and event photographers who can work at a little distance. Its reach is a real limitation in confined spaces, so it pairs best with locations where you have room to step back.
