Westcott Apollo Strip Speedlite Kit

Westcott Apollo Strip Speedlite Kit | Shape light for controlled studio portraits

A narrow, shaped area of light can give a portrait a more deliberate look, with highlights that are easier to place than broad, general illumination. The Westcott Apollo Strip Speedlite Kit is a studio-lighting kit built around strip-style lighting for use with a speedlite. It suits photographers who want to work on portrait lighting and have a clear reason to choose a strip shape, rather than simply adding more light to a scene. That might mean shaping the light falling on a subject or using a slender highlight as part of the composition. The title gives us the product’s purpose, but no basis for claims about its dimensions, setup or included parts, so I won’t guess at those. For a shop setup, that’s an honest limit: choose it for the strip-lighting approach, not for unverified details.

Strip lighting is often chosen when the shape of the light matters as much as its brightness. In a portrait, a narrow highlight can help define an edge or add a more graphic element; the result depends on where you place the light and how the rest of the scene is lit. This kit’s name points to that kind of controlled approach. It’s a more considered starting point than buying a general studio-lighting kit without a particular look in mind.

Think about the pictures you want to make before choosing it. If you’re planning portraits or other studio work where a strip-shaped light has a role, this product is relevant to that setup. If you’re mainly looking for a broad, even wash of light, the strip format may not be the shape you have in mind. I’d start with the lighting effect you want, then decide whether this kit fits that plan.
