7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 MkII Nikon Z-Mount APS-C Black | Close detail, composed portraits

Fine textures can take centre stage, while portraits feel quietly composed. The 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 MkII is a manual-focus macro prime for Nikon Z APS-C cameras, suited to photographers who like to place focus with care. Its 60mm focal length offers a focused field of view for small subjects, flowers and close portrait work. The lens is also a natural fit for head-and-shoulders framing when you want less of the surroundings in the picture. Because focus is manual, you can take time over the exact point of focus; that deliberate approach is rewarding with still subjects, but less convenient when they move unpredictably. If you’re adding a dedicated macro lens or a portrait-friendly prime to a Nikon Z APS-C kit, this gives you a clear, specific tool for close detail and carefully framed images, rather than the flexibility of a zoom.

Specialist Note

The 7Artisans 60mm f/2.8 MkII is at its best for deliberate close-ups and composed portraits. Its f/2.8 maximum aperture gives you scope to soften the background; with macro subjects, take care to align the focus precisely, as even a small shift can move fine detail out of focus. On a Nikon Z DX body, its framing is roughly equivalent to 90mm on a full-frame body, which works well for head-and-shoulders portraits. I’d use manual focus on a steady flower or small product, moving the camera slightly to settle the point of focus where you want it. It suits patient, considered work, though moving subjects can make manual focusing a challenge.
