The 7Artisans Infinte 50mm T2.1 is a manual-focus standard prime for full-frame Canon EF cameras, made with video and filmmaking in mind. Its de-clicked aperture control lets you change the light reaching the sensor without the stepped feel of click stops, which is handy when a take moves from shade into brighter light. At T2.1, it also gives you flexibility when lighting is limited and can help separate a subject from a softer background. The 50mm focal length works well for dialogue, portraits and considered detail shots without the compressed look of a longer lens. It suits filmmakers who are happy to set focus themselves and want direct control over focus and exposure during a shot. For stills, it can also serve as a straightforward standard prime.

Specialist Note

First-time cine-lens owners often make exposure changes in visible steps; the de-clicked aperture on this 7Artisans lets you adjust smoothly instead, which is much easier to keep natural during a take. I’d suggest it to filmmakers who can focus manually and want a standard 50mm view for dialogue or portraits. At T2.1, you have useful exposure latitude for a dim interior, and opening up can soften the background behind your subject. On a Canon APS-C (EF-S) body, the framing is equivalent to 80mm, which can work nicely for tighter portraits. The trade-off is that manual focus takes attention, especially if you’re operating the camera alone.
