B+W Black Mist 1/2 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm
B+W Black Mist 1/2 MRC Nano V-PRO 62mm | A softer, mist-like image
The defining choice is the Black Mist 1/2 effect: this filter is for photographers who want a gentler, mist-like character in their images rather than an entirely crisp-looking rendering. Its name makes the intended look clear, while the 1/2 marking identifies the selected strength. That makes it worth considering for portraits, atmospheric scenes and other subjects where you want a softer visual feel. The 62mm size is the practical detail to match to your lens: it’s the filter diameter, so the lens needs a 62mm filter thread for direct fit. MRC Nano V-PRO is part of the product’s designation, but the name alone doesn’t tell us enough to make claims about its construction or coating performance. Choose this B+W when the Black Mist look is the point, not as a substitute for a plain protective filter.
Specialist Note
Late afternoon light falls across a portrait by the window, and this is where the Black Mist character makes sense: it gives you a way to pursue a softer, more atmospheric finish. I’d consider it for portraits or city lights when you want the image to feel less sharply defined; keep your composition simple so that the effect has room to show. The 1/2 marking identifies the strength you’re choosing, so think about the look you want before fitting it. And do match the 62mm diameter to your lens’s filter thread; that’s the detail that determines whether it fits directly. It suits photographers choosing a particular look, rather than anyone simply needing a neutral filter.
