B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 55mm
B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 55mm | A gentle, misty rendering
Soften the look of bright highlights and give images a gentler, mist-like character with the B+W Black Mist 1/4 MRC Nano V-PRO 55mm. Its 1/4 strength points to a restrained effect: useful when you want a little softness in the image without making that look the whole story. It suits photographers and filmmakers drawn to atmospheric portraits, glowing practical lights or a less clinical feel in a scene. The 55mm designation is the key detail when choosing a filter for your setup; match that size to the filter fitting on the lens you plan to use. This is a creative-effect filter, rather than a description of exposure reduction. The name also identifies the MRC Nano V-PRO version, so keep the full product name handy when searching or asking us about it. If you want to retain a natural-looking image while taking the edge off bright highlights, the 1/4 grade is the detail to focus on.
Specialist Note
Harsh-looking highlights can distract from a portrait or make bright lights feel too crisp; this filter is for adding a softer, mist-like character instead. I’d consider the 1/4 strength when you want that effect to stay measured, rather than dominate the frame. It can suit portraits with bright light in the scene, or night images where visible lights are part of the composition. The 55mm size matters at the point of choosing: match it to the lens’s filter fitting, rather than relying on the camera body name. My honest advice is to treat Black Mist as a deliberate look, not an invisible correction; the point is to change the rendering.
