B+W Black Mist 1 MRC Nano V-PRO 43mm
B+W Black Mist 1 MRC Nano V-PRO 43mm | Softens highlights for a gentler image
The 43mm size is the defining choice here: this B+W Black Mist 1 is made for setups that take a filter of that diameter. Its Black Mist effect is for photographers who want to soften the crisp, high-contrast look of a scene, especially around bright points of light. It suits portrait makers looking for a gentler rendering, and anyone who wants a more atmospheric feel from practical lights in a frame. The effect is creative rather than corrective, so it’s best used when that softer character is part of the picture you want—not when you need every edge to stay crisp. MRC Nano and V-PRO are part of the product’s full designation, useful when you’re looking for this exact B+W version. Think of it as a deliberate rendering choice: the filter changes the feel of the image, while your framing and light decide how noticeable that change becomes.
Specialist Note
Bright points of light take on a softer, more atmospheric character through the Black Mist 1, so you can shape the mood in-camera rather than relying only on editing. I’d try it for a portrait with a bright window or for a night scene with lights in the background; keep those highlights in the composition and judge the effect in the image, not just by looking at the filter. The 43mm size is the detail to match to your lens’s filter size before you set off. MRC Nano V-PRO identifies this specific version, which is handy if you’re comparing filter names or replacing one in a kit. It’s a creative effect, so I wouldn’t reach for it when you want a completely crisp, neutral rendering.
