Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 72mm - 62mm
Caruba StepUp/Down Ring 72mm - 62mm: Mount a smaller filter
A filter that doesn’t fit your lens is no use on it; this Caruba StepUp/Down Ring connects a 72mm lens to a 62mm filter. It’s a simple adapter for photographers who already own a filter in that size and want to use it on a lens with a wider filter thread. The ring bridges the difference, so you can attach a compatible UV, ND or polarising filter. That’s useful when you’d rather make use of a filter already in your kit than buy another in a different size. Choose it for this specific pairing: lens on the 72mm side, filter on the 62mm side. The ring itself doesn’t provide a filter effect; that comes from the filter you attach. It’s a focused accessory for one job, and the stated sizes make it clear which lens and filter it’s intended to connect.
Match the lens and filter
- 72mm lens connection: The ring fits the lens at its 72mm filter thread. That identifies the lens-side size for this particular pairing.
- 62mm filter connection: The other side accepts a 62mm filter, bridging the size difference between that filter and the lens.
- Step-down pairing: The adapter connects a larger lens thread to a smaller filter. The direction matters when choosing a ring, so use this version for the sizes stated here.
- UV filter option: Attach a compatible UV filter when that’s the filter you want to use on the lens. The ring provides the connection between the two thread sizes.
- ND or polarising filter option: These filter types can also be fitted, provided they use the stated filter-side size. Choose the filter for the effect you want; the ring’s role is to connect it.
Specialist Note
At the counter, I start with the lens’s 72mm thread and the 62mm filter you want to keep using. This ring joins those exact sizes, so it’s a good match for someone with a suitable UV, ND or polarising filter already in their bag. For a UV filter, mount it through the ring when that’s the filter you want on the lens; for ND or polarising use, attach that filter instead. The important point is the direction: the lens takes the larger side, and the filter takes the smaller one. It’s a straightforward way to put that existing filter to use, but it doesn’t change the filter’s effect or make it fit a different size.
