Caruba UV + CPL + ND8 Kit 62mm
Caruba UV + CPL + ND8 Kit 62mm | Three filters for changing light
Without filters, bright daylight can leave you choosing between lens protection, reflections and too much light. The Caruba UV + CPL + ND8 Kit 62mm brings three different filters together for lenses with a 62mm filter thread. The UV filter is useful as a protective layer over the lens’s front element, and it addresses the bluish cast that ultraviolet sunlight can create in daytime pictures. For outdoor scenes, the CPL filter reduces reflections from surfaces such as windows and water, while increasing contrast and colour saturation. The ND8 filter cuts incoming light, which is handy in strong sun when you want to keep a wide aperture or use a longer shutter speed. Each filter has a protective, multilayer coating, and the included pouch holds up to four filters. It’s a straightforward set for moving between everyday lens protection, reflective scenes and bright-light shooting.
What each filter changes
- UV filter: Reduces the bluish cast associated with ultraviolet sunlight in daytime photography. It also places a replaceable protective layer in front of your lens.
- CPL filter: Cuts reflections from reflective surfaces such as glass and water. It also boosts contrast and colour saturation, including the separation between blue sky and white clouds.
- ND8 filter: Reduces the light reaching the camera. Use it in strong sunshine to avoid overexposure with a wide aperture or to work with a longer shutter speed.
- Multilayer protective coating: The filters have a coating intended to protect their surfaces and make cleaning easier.
- Four-filter pouch: The included case has room for four filters, so there’s space to carry this three-filter set together.
Specialist Note
The ND8 is a fixed-strength filter, so it’s for reducing light, not for adding flexibility in dim conditions. That’s still a useful role in this set: I’d choose it for a bright-day waterfall, where a longer shutter speed can soften the moving water, or to keep a wide aperture in strong sun without overexposing the picture. The CPL has a different job; use it when reflections on a window or a patch of water are getting in the way. The 62mm size is the key fit detail, so this set is for lenses with a 62mm filter thread. I like that the pouch has a spare slot for one more filter.
