Commlite ND Filter Variable Fader - 72 mm
Commlite ND Filter Variable Fader - 72 mm | Adjust light without changing filters
Bright conditions can leave you choosing between a fast shutter speed and the look you want. The Commlite ND Filter Variable Fader reduces the light reaching your camera, while its adjustable fader lets you change the effect instead of swapping between fixed ND filters. It’s a practical option for photographers and videographers who want more control over exposure in daylight. For example, reducing the light can help you use a slower shutter speed to show motion in a stream, or keep a wider aperture when filming outdoors. The 72 mm size is the key fit detail: it’s intended for a lens with a matching 72 mm filter thread. As you adjust the fader, keep an eye on your exposure and the image in the viewfinder or screen. This is a straightforward way to manage bright light, but it doesn’t choose your camera settings for you.
Specialist Note
The trade-off with a variable fader is that you’re adjusting the filter’s effect rather than working with one fixed reduction. That’s also the reason to choose this Commlite: you can make changes without removing the filter and reaching for another strength. The 72 mm size matters, so match it to a lens with a 72 mm filter thread. I’d suggest it to someone filming outdoors who wants to retain a wider aperture: turn the fader while watching the image, then set exposure to suit. For stills, it can also help you slow the shutter to record moving water in daylight. Just keep checking the exposure as you adjust.
