Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 105mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter
Formatt Hitech Firecrest ND 105mm ND 0.6 (2stops) Filter | More control in bright light
On a bright day, you may want a slower shutter speed to show movement in water, or a wider aperture for a shallower depth of field, but the scene is already too bright for your chosen exposure. This neutral density filter reduces the light reaching the camera, giving you more room to make that choice without changing the scene itself. It suits landscape photographers and anyone who wants to manage exposure creatively in daylight. The filter is identified as 105mm, with an ND 0.6 density; the practical point of that density is a two-stop reduction. That’s a measured, moderate adjustment rather than an extreme long-exposure effect. Use it when you want a little more time for motion or a little more aperture flexibility, while keeping your exposure under control.
Specialist Note
Bright conditions can box you into a fast shutter or a smaller aperture; this filter gives you two stops of breathing room. ND 0.6 is the density to keep in mind: for example, if your exposure calls for 1/125 sec without the filter, you can use about 1/30 sec with it and maintain the same exposure. That’s handy for giving moving water a softer look without jumping straight to a very long exposure. The 105mm designation is the size to match to your filter setup. I’d recommend it to photographers who want a controlled, moderate reduction; two stops won’t turn harsh midday light into a dramatic long exposure by itself.
